Precision Online Analog Clock

This interactive analog clock displays precise local or world time using hardware-synchronized browser frames. Unlike static graphics or coarse timers, each hand position updates through direct mathematical angular calculation, giving you an authentic horological instrument right inside your browser window.

Two Authentic Second-Hand Movements

Traditional horology separates timepieces into two distinct philosophies: smooth quartz sweeps and discrete mechanical ticks. This web app implements both:

  • Continuous Sweep Mode: The second hand rotates in an unbroken circle driven by your display refresh cycle. Every fraction of a second recalculates rotation angle, matching the glide of high-end electric movements and tuning-fork watches.
  • Mechanical Tick Mode: The second hand jumps in sixty distinct one-second increments. A simulated deadbeat recoil easing provides a subtle 1.2-degree spring settle on each step, echoing the physical anchor escapement of pendulum regulator clocks.

Native Timezone Accuracy Without Hardcoded Offsets

Standard clock websites often rely on fixed hour offsets that break during Daylight Saving Time adjustments. This clock calculates every hour, minute, and second using the browser's native Internationalization API (`Intl.DateTimeFormat`). When London enters British Summer Time or New York transitions to Eastern Daylight Time, the clock face adjusts automatically without manual intervention.

Dial Geometry and Optical Numeral Balance

Notice the dial face configurations in our gallery. The Roman numeral preset uses the historical clockmaker convention of IIII instead of IV at the four o'clock position. This ancient horological choice balances the visual weight of the heavy VIII located directly opposite on the dial. The tapered hand profiles widen near the center arbor and narrow toward the dial perimeter, preserving clear sightlines to the minute indices below.
